Peruvian photography Lorry Salcedo is a storyteller at heart. He finds his narratives conveyed through the bodies of his subjects. An expression, a gesture, even a posture is all it takes to initiate one of his tales. It is, in the final analysis, the story of the human similarities that unite all of us, regardless of ethnicity, gender, nationality, or even historical epoch, which Salcedo seeks to discover through his work. His stories, written in light and printed on silvered paper, encompass a truly multicultural Peru, a nation that, like its counterparts across the Americas, is still in the process of recognizing the full richness and value of its own diversity. Both the photographs he has encountered in his explorations of what it means to be a Peruvian and those he has created in the studio for the same purpose, allow us to see why this is so.
